In a sign that my small, studio apartment in Munich is now habitable, I was able to enjoy my first chai in the new place. Of course, disorganized that I am, I realized that I needed a sieve to filter only after the tea was boiled and brewed. So, please don’t ask how I managed to filter it. It wasn’t effective anyways, as I found myself nibbling on pieces of ginger I had put in the tea. And the cup is actually a farewell gift from a dear friend and ex-colleague of mine from the UK before I left Frankfurt. Makes the chai that little bit extra special.
On the flip side, it was while I was having chai that I made my acquaintance with ChiChi. ChiChi is the resident squirrel living in the tree right outside in the garden. As I sipped on the tea, editing my photos, I noticed this little red, furry creature darting around till its eyes fell on me. A silent nod from my side and a visible twitch of whiskers from his side and we were introduced in that wordless manner reserved usually only for soulmates. And ChiChi obviously doesn’t believe in stills (as in posing for the camera) and I couldn’t, for the life of me, stay put waiting for ChiChi to make up his mind on which corner of the garden has the most abundant supply of nuts.
So, there we go – chai with ChiChi in Munich. I hope we’ll have many more of those – and a visual evidence of ChiChi’s existence soon. And as to those wondering, why call him ChiChi? I’d only say – God knows.
