Water is the driving force of all nature.
– Leonardo da Vinci

The sky and fjord stretching out all the way to the horizon – sense of being confronted with the dominance of Nature – one of the pre-requisites to make a human feel totally insignificant. (May 2013)
Digging in to the memory well to look at one of the most awe-inspiring sights of Nature – cruising through the Naeroyfjord, getting a taste of its wilderness. And the splendid solitude one finds in its gentle waters, raging waterfalls, and lush vegetation. A perfect retreat.
The cruise on the Naeroyfjord starts in Gudvangen. The surroundings here already give you an idea of what to expect. (May 2013)
As the cruise starts, it feels like you are being eased in to the wilderness … one only hears the dampened chugging of the cruise boat and the distant roar of the water tumbling down the surrounding cliffs. (May 2013)
And then suddenly, you are confronted with one of the many thundering waterfalls cascading down the stony faces of the cliffs (May 2013)
Imagine trying to make a stand against this onslaught of water as it comes raging down! Talking about the force of Nature! (May 2013)
And then the air is punctuated with the sound of the birds… an albatross follows the boat, possibly looking for tidbits. (May 2013)
There are few signs of settlements around the fjord and seems very sparsely populated. We passed by a only a couple of villages along the fjord with their pretty, clapboard structures… here is one of the oldest churches on the fjord. (May 2013)
Every now and then along the way, one comes across a solitary farmhouse… From down here, it is difficult to see how one can reach it. But in the old days, the owners would drop down rope ladders down the cliff, if they wished to meet their visitors. The sense of isolation is difficult to escape. (May 2013).
The white flecks in the center are sheep grazing on the mountainside. (May 2013)
One finds trees and vegetation growing at all odd and even angles along the slopes of the cliffs. (May 2013)
The mountaintops around the fjord are shrouded with swirling mist adding to the beauty and mystique of the place. (May 2013)

There is very little left to say… the rest of the trip is punctuated more with the clicks of the camera than with words. (May 2013).
A row of pretty boathouses on the fjord. (May 2013)
The cruise ended in Flam – the surroundings again providing a fitting end to the cruise. (May 2013)
