Spitzingsee

“Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.”

 – Kahlil Gibran

I visited Spitzingsee during the first weekend of July. It was a nice drive through the countryside – passing by the more well-known Schliersee enroute to the village of the same name. The lake is relatively smaller compared to the other well-known ones near Munich… you can complete a walk around the lake in about 45 minutes to an hour.

The sequence of events in my mind – parked the car, had beer and an apple pie (Apfelstrudel), walked around the lake taking pictures, sat by the lake for 30 minutes thinking about nothing in particular, had a coffee and a sausage salad, visited the souvenir store, drove back to Munich…. It felt good to be outdoors, even though it was for a short while.

At the souvenir store, I randomly picked up for my mum a keychain (edelweiss), a brooch (edelweiss), and a miniature house – got a second one for free from the smiling, good-hearted shopkeeper. The one that I really liked was slightly damaged – so she gave that for free as she did not have any more in stock.

A sunny Saturday at the Spitzingsee – a small mountain lake near Munich. (July 2018)
