The Schloß Johannisburg on the banks of river Main is probably the most prominent landmark in the city of Aschaffenburg.  As I read up on it – the palace was built in the 17th century and served as a second residence for the Bishop of Mainz. It suffered a lot of damage in WW II and it took about 20 years to restore the red sandstone edifice to its former glory.

I was in Aschaffenburg last weekend to participate in the Brüderschaft der Völker Fest on behalf of Asha for Education. The fest was taking place on the opposite bank of the Main and I did not have time to check out the palace either from closer up nor from inside. Some other time, I guess.
