Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

On the recent trip to Barcelona, I came across this message in the Mercat del Born. I didn’t quite understand the context of the message, but the picture of a child with its sad, questioning eyes – its innocence seemingly unable to comprehend some seemingly brutal reality it might have been subjected to – seemed quite universal.

There are many grey areas in the debates and conflicts raging around the world today. There should be no grey areas, when it comes to letting children be themselves. That is also what I’d like to express through this picture and post.

“Children are living beings – more living than grown-up people who have built shells of habit around themselves. Therefore it is absolutely necessary for their mental health and development that they should not have mere schools for their lessons, but a world whose guiding spirit is personal love.”

 – Rabindranath Tagore
